This week’s programme includes pretty villages, breath-taking views, turquoise waters and many activities because we’re going to the Verdon Gorges!
Get on your motorbike or in your car, because we’re going upland to Trigance village, our first stop. After about an hour’s drive from the sea, we arrive at Trigance, a charming medieval village with narrow inviting lanes that are wonderful to explore. The village boasts carved lintels, stepped roads and old-stone houses.
From Trigance, we’re going to the Verdon Gorges to discover one of the most beautiful areas of the region. Turquoise waters twist through limestone cliffs - the contrasts are striking and the heights, vertiginous. The wide well-maintained road that bit by bit brings us closer to the water, offers superb vantage points.
After a 40 minute journey, more or less, we arrive at Aiguines, an ideal holiday village. Quiet and warm, it represents all the Côte d’Azur clichés. Aiguines offers marvellous views over the Verdon, Lake Sainte-Croix and the Valensole Plateau. Aiguines is the perfect place for rock climbers. In fact, it is the region’s rock-climbing capital.
Next, we head down to Salles-sur-Verdon for a little dip. In effect, this is the best place to enjoy the almost green waters of the Verdon. There are so many activities available here: canyoning, pedalos, wind-surfing, motor boat hire, and so on. However, the best activity is to visit the gorges, enjoy its cool waters and beautiful landscape. Children love jumping into the water from the rocks. You are assured an enjoyable afternoon here.
For those who prefer to stay on land, local guides offer guided treks around Verdon’s natural and cultural sites.
