Pony treks on Sunday and Sunday mornings from 10.30am to 12noon.
Why not come on an exploration of Levens, a little known Niçois village? Roughly 20 minutes inland from Nice by car, Levens is located 600m above sea-level in the middle of the countryside.
An astonishing architectural heritage
Levens village has chosen to make it easier for visitors discover its heritage by laying bronze arrows as signposts all along the lanes of the old village. So it’s easy - you simply stroll around the village, follow the arrows to discover its sculpted doorways, numerous medieval remains, many charming houses, and above all panoramic views of the Var valley, parts of La Vésubie and the mountains around Cheiron and Mercantour in the distance.
Levens village grew around its château between 9th and 15th century, and has an impressive religious heritage. La Madone des Près is one of the oldest churches in the Comté region and contains a 10th century crypt. The parish church was rebuilt in 1614 and includes a 16th century pulpit. The Black and White chapels respectively contain a 17th century fresco of the Virgin and Child and a very beautiful 18th century retable.
Valérie’s ponies
Valérie’s pony club, in Levens, offers pony treks along the Férion forest path for children aged 2-10 years old. More unusually, however, Valérie also welcomes very young children, toddlers aged 18th months upwards. They are her Bébés Cavaliers!
Valérie uses equipment especially adapted for young children; the treks last around one hour; and groups only take a maximum of 6 children at a time, accompanied by a qualified instructor and a parent-instructor. Valérie’s prefers to let the children set their own pace, while encouraging them to build a rapport with their animal and enjoy the pleasure and fun of a trek.
