To take in the fresh air during this period of intense heat, there is nothing like going up into the mountains. These days, however, we can offer you the possibility of discovering a totally new way of doing this and that is to go to the Loup gorges (in English, the Wolves’ gorges), a truly refreshing place and experience !
The Saut du Loup waterfall site
To everyone’s great pleasure, the town of Gourdon has organised a guided tour which takes you to the Saut du Loup site. For only 1€ per person, you can go along the foot track leading to the point where you can see all over the whole of the Loup valley.
You can also see from here several pretty waterfalls (containing seriously tempting pools for bathing in) "la grande marmite" ("the big cooking pot") and "les cascades des demoiselles" (the "young girls’ waterfalls") whilst "the belvédère" (panoramic view point) gives you the chance to view the most beautiful of panoramas.
On this journey along the Loup, the famous Courmes waterfall known, as said, known as « the petrifying waterfall », is a classical historical site and, at the highest part of the descent from the Canyon, is one of the biggest attractions of the whole area with its 40 metre waterfall which then turns into several smaller pools.
A little more : there is a restaurant-bar at the start of the route. Here you can purchase fresh drinks and ice creams in addition to simple, freshly prepared dishes to satisfy the hugest of appetites.
