In the middle of the Var and Maures’ landscape, lays the village of Collobrières, surrounded by peaceful and lush oak forest. Dotted with fountains and little squares, Collobrières has many historical monuments, including its famous 12th Century Pont Vieux!
Chestnut country
Collobrières is reknowned for its chestnuts, and as such has been labelled a “Var village of character”. You will find many vendors offering you different gourmet ways to discover the chestnut: chestnut cream, chestnut flour, marrons glacés, and much more.
To learn more about chestnut trees and manufacturing methods related to them, a basket-weaver on boulevard Caminat is offering basket-weaving taster sessions.
La Chartreuse de la Verne
To the other side of the village in the direction of Grimaud, lays the wonderful Chartreuse de la Verne, a perfectly preserved 12th century monastery. The Chartreuse de la Verne sits atop a rocky spur overlooking the Maures Mountains, and is a lovely place to have a picnic.
Once inside the walls of this isolated building, you’ll be able to discover the cloisters and nuns’ working spaces and life. When not participating in communal prayers or gathered in their cells, the nuns package ceramics, candles and incense which visitors can purchase.
