Our destination this week is Valberg; yet, the road that takes us there follows the Cians Gorges and is an escapade in its own right. The Cians River, starting at the bottom of Mont Mounier (alt. 2817m) just above Valberg mountain resort, has carved deep gorges into the primary era red shale. Valberg has been granted Station verte status, meaning that it has been recognised as a family-friendly green nature resort. It is located 1700m in altitude and has a unique European biodiversity: its animal and plant-life include Alpine ibex, bearded vultures, eagles, vultures and edelweiss.
NATURE AND ACTIVITY
Every summer mountain activity imaginable
The Sénateur Lake offers areas for trout fishing, around forty signposted walking and mountain bike trails, as well as activities for seasoned sports people and walkers looking for some fresh air. From the top of Mont Mounier you can enjoy magnificent views across the Mercantour Massif.
Young and old will love Valberg’s adventure park, Espace Valberg Aventure, built in the forest located between the Croix du Sapet and the sports park. It has three levels of difficulty and includes suspended walkways, zip lines, rope bridges, fixed and suspended beams, rope ladders, trapezes, corde lisse, nets and more.
PLANETARY ROUTE
A unique trail in Europe
Valberg resort includes a unique trail designed to promote the discovery of our solar system, reproduced as a scale model across the resort (1m=1 million kilometres in space).
Monolithic works are posted along the whole of the discovery trail that includes educational, contemplative and relaxation astronomy related stops. The trail is subdivided into three instructive circuits that take 1 h 30, 3 h30 or 5 hours to complete.
VALBERG GOLF CLUB
Mountain summit golf
Valberg Golf Club offers putting in an enchanting alpine setting. Its nine-hole course has short distances, ideal for beginners, but is also technical enough to satisfy experienced players.
The golf club is completely eco-friendly: the wooden clubhouse fits perfectly into the landscape, just like a chalet; it has electric golf carts; organic fertilizer is used on the greens; the soil is tilled responsibly and no pesticides are used – a golf course that provides enjoyment and respect.
FUTURE DATES: TUESDAY 21 JUNE 2011
The Porsche Tour of the Grandes Alpes Passes Route along with special edition cars from the Monte Carlo rally will pass through Valberg.
