Escapade La Turbie
- Le tour de la Tête de Chien: from the village, of avenue de la Pinèd and then join la Pinède, a dirt road.
- Le Trophée des Alpes: The monument and park are open all year from Tuesday to Sunday.
The medieval village of La Turbie overlooks the Principality of Monaco and is famous for its Roman monument, known as le Trophée des Alpes, the trophy of the Alps. When it comes to attractive sights, this village has got it all, and the best: the most famous views on the Riviera, a rich historical and architectural heritage, cobbled, flower-lined lanes, plenty of managed walking paths and Grande Corniche Nature Park.
The cobbled and flowery lanes of La Turbie hide many treasures, such as the fountain and the 18th century St. Michel baroque church. The church was built using stones taken from the trophy of the Alps, which by then was in ruins, and both the trophy and the church have been classified as French national monuments.
Jutting out high above the sea, the village is the starting point for 8 walking paths. Of note are the path tracing the ancient Roman road to Beausoleil, on the borders of Monaco, and the path leading to the Church of Notre Dame of Laghet.
Tour of la Tête de Chien
La Tête de Chien is a 550m high headland overlooking Monaco that was of strategic military significance throughout the 18th century. The walking tour of the headland follows a path around the hillside and takes 2 hours to complete. From the path you can enjoy broad views of Monaco, and on clear days you can see as far as St. Tropez.
Le Trophée des Alpes
Perched on its belvedere with uninterrupted views of Monaco, the famous Trophée des Alpes is a monument that was built for Emperor Augustus by the Senate and the people of Rome to commemorate the conquest of the Alpine arc. Built over 2000 years ago, it stands as a testimony to Roman domination of the area at a time when La Turbie was a frontier town between Gaule and Italy. he park and monument, one of the few structures of this type still standing today, are open to visitors every day except for Mondays, all year round.
