From the perfume capital of Grasse we take the Napoléon Route to the village of Séranon, about 40km away. The steep route is an excursion in itself; its winding bends overlooking the valley below, pass through the upper territory of Grasse and its villages.
Dog sledding ride
Séranon is at the foot of Audibergue resort in the commune of Thorenc, right in the middle of what is known as ‘Swiss Provence’. We’re here for an unusual activity for all the family to enjoy: a trip in a dog sled.
Before we head off on our adventure, we start with a visit to the Little Track Kennel association’s breeding ground. Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies are bred here. Once we’re comfortably seated, we’re ready to start our ride pulled by a team of dogs. The musher guides the dogs, while imparting his passion for mushing to us.
The journey lasts 40 minutes; half-day excursions are also available on demand, and for thrill-seekers, night-time excursions are also possible.
Escaillon Farm
After work comes play, with a fun foodie visit to La "Ferme de L’Escaillon". A working farm since the 19th century, it is located 1000m above sea-level in Andon.
Part of the "Bienvenue à la Ferme" network in France, the farm is owned by a dedicated couple who organise guided tours around the theme of farming history, providing information on how the farm works and breeding methods. The tour follows a pedagogical path lined with informative plaques.
Children are able to spend time with chickens, rabbits, cows and calves. There is an opportunity to take a peek inside cheese factory’s maturing room, as well as buy farm products, such as milk, eggs, cheese, cottage cheese and meat.
We highly recommend making time for a tea-break! Arranged by appointment, they include taster sessions of exclusively home-made gourmand products (caramel milk jam, fromage frais, and so on).
If you really wish to get into farm-life, two guest rooms, registered with Gîtes de France, are available for hire. Both rooms are located on the first floor of the farm building; one of the rooms is family-sized.
