1898 : Storm on Thanksgiving Day in the eastern United States


On November 26, 1898, a winter storm hit the coasts of New England and paralyzed the States of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. High winds and a strong blizzard prevented any communication. Many ships were damaged and sank in ports. At least 450 people were killed.

1922 : Carter entered the tomb of Tutankhamen


On November 26, 1922, British archaeologists Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. They were the first people to enter for over 3000 years. They found the tomb intact and so many treasures which can be admired today in the Cairo Museum.

1942 : Here's looking at you, kid


On November 26, 1942, Michael Curtiz film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca, was presented at the Hollywood Theater in New York. This story of love and resistance in Vichy-controlled Morocco during World War II is a treat for film buffs and some replicas of the film have become cults.

2008 : Terrorist attacks in Mumbai


From 26 to 29 November 2008, 10 coordinated terrorist attacks hit the city of Mumbai in India. The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Pakistan. The targets were varied: two luxury hotels, a railway station, a Jewish community center, a hospital, a cinema, a restaurant, a school, a port and a taxi. 164 people were killed and 308 injured.
