1868 : Custer massacred a peaceful Cheyenne villageOn November 27, 1868, Colonel Custer, who had just been reinstated after a conviction for abuse of soldiers by a military court, launched a raid, without any identification, against a peaceful Cheyenne village, on reservation soil, near the Washita River in Oklahoma. Most villagers were massacred. |

1942 : Scuttling of the French fleet in ToulonOn November 27, 1942, after the invasion of the south of France by the Germans, Admiral Jean de Laborde, under the authority of the Vichy regime, ordered the scuttling of the French fleet at Toulon. He had however been strongly suggested to join the Allies in North Africa. Nevertheless, everyone happily obeyed and 90% of the fleet was destroyed. Only 3 crews of submarines took the decision to join the Allies in North Africa. |

1983 : Crash of a Boeing 747 in MadridOn November 27, 1983, Avianca Flight 011, a Boeing 747, coming from Frankfurt via Paris to Bogota via Madrid, crashed near the Madrid-Barajas airport. Mishandling was made during the approach phase and the aircraft struck two hills before crashing. 181 people were killed but 11 people survived. |

2009 : Attack on a train in RussiaOn November 27, 2009, an explosive device corresponding to 7kg of TNT derailed the Nevsky Express train from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. 28 people were killed and over 100 injured. |
