Located a few kilometers from the Gorges du Verdon and twenty minutes from Lake St. Croix, Sillans la Cascade is a beautiful medieval village, which attracts visitors with its special charm, its refreshing waterfall and its vast green meadows!

HISTORY

We can say that the territory of Sillans la Cascade has always been inhabited since we already know that the dinosaurs lived there 69 million years ago. It is also known that the Gallo-Roman lived on the land because fragments of millstones and wine or grain amphorae have been found.

The first written words to quote Sillans date from the eleventh century. The first lords of village were the Baux, then it was the Pontevès and the Blacas.

In 1789, the castle and the territory of Sillans were purchased by the Roland family. It later belonged to Castellane-Esparon after an alliance.

MUST SEE

• The cascade : Impressive 44-meter waterfall. Formed by the Bresque river and the source of the St. John Castle, it is reached by a pleasant walk of about 800 meters which winds between great plane trees.



• The castle : Built in 1800 by Rolland Sillans in place of an ancient castle. It now houses the Sillans town hall.



• The chapel : This chapel was built in 1858 on the top of the village and was renovated in 2004. It offers a beautiful view over the valley of the Verdon and the Bresque river.



• The church : Originally this church was a chapel dedicated to St Lawrence. When it received a relic of St. Stephen, it grew in importance and it was then enlarged with two side chapels. The church was completely restored in 2009.

ACCES

Sillans-la-Cascade is located in the Haut Var, in the Verdon Regional Natural Park between Salernes and Cotignac. The village lies at the intersection of D22 and D560.

From the West, take the A8 motorway and exit at St-Maximin-la-Ste-Baume (exit 34). Follow the direction of Barjols; once past Barjols, follow the road of Draguignan (D560) up to Sillans-la-Cascade.

From the east, take the A8 motorway and exit at Le Muy (exit 36). Follow the direction of Draguignan then Salernes (D560) and then finally the road to Sillans-la-Cascade.
