1995 : Attack on the RER BOn July 25, 1995 in Paris, a gas cylinder exploded in the RER B at station Saint-Michel - Notre-Dame. 8 people were killed and 117 injured. The attack was claimed by the GIA (Armed Islamic Group) in Algeria. The authors were identified as Khaled Boualem Bensaid and Kelkal. Khaled Kelkal was shot by police on September 29, 1995 near Lyon when he tried to resist. Boualem Bensaid was arrested in November 1995. |

2000 : Concorde crashesOn July 25, 2000, Air France Concorde jet crashed to the ground shortly after takeoff from the airport of CDG airport in Paris. Its 105 passengers and crew members as welle as four people on the ground were killed . The investigation showed that the accident was caused by a piece of metal on the runway, which blew a tire whose fragments damaged an engine and the fuel tank causing a fire. |
