1956 : First Hard Drive


On September 13, 1956, IBM introduced the first hard drive. Its name is IBM 305 and it contains 5 megabytes of data. 55 years later, an average hard disk has a capacity of 1 million times greater.

1971 : End of the riot at Attica prison in New York


On September 13, 1971, an assault by the police ended, in a bloody way, four days of riots in Attica prison in western New York.
29 prisoners and 10 hostages were killed and 80 others were seriously injured.
The prisoners demanded better conditions of detention in the overcrowded maximum security prison.

1987 : Nuclear accident in Brazil


On September 13, 1987, an object of radiotherapy in an old abandoned hospital in Goiânia, Brazil, is taken and handled by different people. The small container of highly radioactive Cesium contaminated 245 people and killed 4 of them.

1993 : Signing of a Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement in Washington


On September 13, 1993, at the White House during a ceremony presided over by Bill Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO chairman Yasser Arafat signed an agreement which marked the start of a Palestinian autonomy and provided the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and part of the West Bank. To everyone's amazement, the two men even shaked hands. This agreement was acted upon but the extremists on both sides did everything to sabotage the peace process and in 1995, Rabin was assassinated.
