On February 2, 1913, Grand Central Terminal is open in Manhattan, New York.

1964 : Launch of GI Joe


On 2 February 1964, following the success of its Barbie doll, Hasbro is launching a character of action for boys: GI Joe. A character for each branch of the Army is created.

1972 : British Embassy Destroyed


In response to the Bloody Sunday perpetrated by the British army, crowds destroyed the British Embassy in Dublin with incendiary bombs.

1990 : ANC authorized


On 2 February 1990, the South African President De Klerk lifted the ban that lasted 30 years on the African National Congress (ANC). He also announced the upcoming release of Nelson Mandela.

Groundhog Day
On 2 February in the U.S. and Canada, it is the Groundhog Day. If the groundhog leaves its burrow and the weather is cloudy, it will emerge and it will mean that winter will soon end. If the weather is nice when the groundhog comes out, it sees its shadow and return to its burrow and winter will last 6 more weeks. The most famous groundhog is Punxsutawney Phil, in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, who had a worldwide reputation in the movie Groundhog Day by Harold Ramis starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.
