Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is a commune of the Var department, which is the limit with that of the Bouches-du-Rhone. The town consists of two hamlets, Les Lecques and La Madrague, which are all open to the sea. Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is one of the most famous cities of the Provencal Coast.
This opening to the sea provides a 2-km sandy beach to the city and three marinas. It is also surrounded by pine forests and vineyards of Côte de Provence labeled AOC Bandol.

History :

The first inhabitants on the territory of present Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer settled around 4000 BC. Fragments of pottery and flint found in the La Madrague hamlet proved it.

Until now, the territory has always been occupied : Ligurian, Greeks and Romans. With a large number of pottery and amphorae found there, it can be assumed that the city had an economy based on trade and creation of these objects.

Legend has it that the city was submerged under water in the third century . After this cataclysm, survivors settled in the heights of the city.

Subsequently, the city passed from hand to hand as invasions and estates dictated. It grew with the hamlets of Les Lecques and La Madrague in the nineteenth century. The city was named Saint-Cyr-de-Provence in 1838 and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer in 1907.

Leisure :

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer has developed its leisure activities around the sea and its ancient past. A beautiful coastal path was built. It runs along the sea to Bandol and offers a superb panorama on the Mediterranean and the rocky coastline. Attached to this path, is the Fregate Golf which has 18 holes and 9 school holes. The course is very well integrated into the natural landscape and provides a beautiful view on the Embiez island.

Many water activities (diving, water skiing ...) and land activites (hiking, biking) are available.

For cultural activities, the Tauroentum museum opens its doors for a trip back in time, at the time of the Neolithic and the Antiquity. It is also possible to visit the Sebastien Art Center, a museum dedicated to contemporary art.
