DESCRIPTION
La Crau is a large town of 15 400 inhabitants nestled at the foot of Mount Fenouillet and bordering the eastern part of the city of Toulon. La Crau is bathed by two rivers, The Gapeau and the Real Martin, its tributary. Its area of over 3500 hectares is divided into several hamlets such as Notre Dame, Les Martins, Les Goys Fourniers or La Moutonne which, in a few decades, has become a real little village of 5000 inhabitants.
La Crau is a city ideally situated between the coastal cities and the hinterland of Provence, while being close to the seaside.
HISTORY
Since antiquity, the Romans had settled in the Plains and had developed their agricultural and their handicraft (making olive oil and amphorae). Later, during the Middle Ages, the village moved to Mount Fenouillet and buildt the Chapel Notre Dame of Fenouillet.
The currently city began to develop from the fourteenth century around the irrigation system of the Beal, then in the nineteenth century around the road between La Garde and Pierrefeu.
Historically, the town has lived on viticulture and various wine cooperatives and through agriculture. Today, the economy of La Crau is reinforced with the arrival of tourists who are looking quietness while being close to the coast.
IMPORTANT PLACES
The town of La Crau has a significant heritage. Visitors will find many interesting places such as the chapel of Mount Fenouillet, the Jean Natte Canal, also known as Beal, or Mount Fenouillet that offers an incomparable view over the valley.
La Crau also allows visitors to discover its terroir : several agricultural properties (producers of olive oil, vegetables and fish farm) open their doors and offer tours. The town, famous for its wineries, allows its visitors to explore the vineyards of the wine route directly with producers.

By road: From Nice take the A8 and take exit A57 towards Le Luc/Toulon/Hyères. Take exit 6-Farlède towards La Crau.
From Marseille, take the A50 then the A57 and take exit 6 - Farlède towards the Crau.
By plane: Marseille airport is located about 100km from La Crau
By rail: The train station of La Crau is directly linked to the city of Toulon.
