TOUR OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Individual visits to the European Parliament's semi-circular auditorium are offered with a multimedia guide Monday to Thursday 10am - 3pm and Fridays at 10am.

ATOMIUM

Built in 1958 for the World Expo in Brussels, this 9-sphere monument erected as homage to science represents the nine atoms of iron crystal and reaches a height of 102m. It houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to the 1958 event, activities, films, concerts and conferences. There is a bar, a restaurant and a unique 360° panorama over Brussels from the top sphere.

THE CITY OF BRUSSELS MUSEUM

Altarpieces, sculptures, tapestries, engravings, paintings and models retracing the history of the Belgian capital from its beginnings to today. This neo-gothic building and King's Household been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. It also houses the original stone version of the Manneken-Pis and his wardrobe with 800 complete outfits can be seen from a multimedia terminal.

THE COCOA AND CHOCOLATE MUSEUM

Close to the Grand-Place, this small museum recounts the history of the black gold from the origins of its production. The secrets of the harvest and artisanal manufacturing are revealed in the presence of a master chocolatier.

THE BRASSERIE MUSEUM

A museum nestled in the Brewers' house dating back to the 16th century. The discovery of beer brewing techniques, an exhibition of vintage beer tankards, antique porcelain and typical brewing objects punctuate the tour of this museum which concludes with the tasting of a different beer each week.

THE TRAM MUSEUM

Created in 1982, the Brussels' Museum of Urban Transport houses a large collection of streetcars, coaches, trolley buses and taxis which have crossed the capital for the last 150 years. It recounts the history in the restored hangers of the Woluwe depot.

BELGIAN COMIC STRIP CENTRE

Varied temporary exhibitions complete the permanent offering which notably brings together boards, unique objects and old magazines dedicated to the European comic strips made popular by the Belgian artists. Homage to the 9th art to interpret the creative development and art of the pencil stroke.

ACTIVITIES

WALK THROUGH THE ART OF THE COMIC STRIP

Fifty giant frescoes displayed in the city's historic centre offer a 6km walk where the capital's walls are covered with monumental figures painted in colour.

BRUSSELS TOURIST TRAMWAY

From the start of April to October, every Sunday morning, a tramway dating back to 1935 takes tourists around Brussels. Commentary on this 35km journey is provided by an on-board guide.

PLACES OF INTEREST

THE GRAND-PLACE DISTRICT

This is the historic centre of Brussels and has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1998. In the Grand-Place, the terraces of cafés and restaurant are lively both in the day and at night and overlook the architectural richness of the Flemish-style buildings.



THE MANNEKEN PIS FOUNTAIN

Located in the St Jacques district close to the Grand-Place, this bronze statue is fifty centimetres high and is a fountain representing a small boy urinating. It is a dressed by an employee of the City who chooses his outfits according to a set annual calendar which celebrates annual events to which the Manneken Pis' outfit makes reference. Tradition dictates that visitors to the city give him an outfit and his wardrobe now boasts more than 800 original outfits.

JEANNEKE PIS

The Manneken Pis' female counterpart, this sculpture was inaugurated in 1987 and is located on the other side of the Grand-Place in an alleyway leading to rue des Bouchers. She sits enthroned on a metre-high fountain and is often covered with a key-locked grid.

PLACE ST JOB

"The place to be" every Friday from 17th June to 2nd September from 5pm to 10.30pm for the APERO SÉDENTAIRE held in this Brussels square. Two resident DJs run these open-air parties which have an Afterwork atmosphere where people enjoy dancing and drinking; there is also a special area for children.
