1864 : Sand Creek MassacreOn November 28, 1864, the Colorado Volunteers of Colonel John M. Chivington attacked a peaceful Cheyenne village, at Sand Creek, while the governor of Colorado had led the tribe to settle here, under the protection of the army. Hundreds of civilians were massacred and mutilated with great savagery. The pacifist Cheyenne chief Black Kettle escaped. He was assassinated four years later, with his whole village, by the men of Custer, in the same ciconstances while he still believed he was under the protection of the army in an federal reservation. |

1947 : The United Nations voted to partition PalestineOn November 29, 1947, against the advice of the Arab populations, the United Nations voted to partition Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state. At the end of the second World War, the British, who ran the country and could not find a solution to manage conflicts between the Arab and Jewish communities, had submitted the problem to the United Nations. The vote of the United Nations and the many following resolutions did not solve the problem that remains deeply conflicting. |

1963 : President Johnson appointed the Warren CommissionOn November 29, 1963, U.S. President Johnson appointed a commission to clarify the ins and outs of the assassination of President Kennedy : the Warren commission, named after Chief Justice Warren. As Kennedy's murderer was killed in unclear circumstances, the Warren Commission was responsible for determining all the responsibilities. The Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, Kennedy's murderer, had acted on his own, as well as Jack Ruby, Oswald's assassin. Many people were not satisfied with these conclusions. |
