1846 : Neptune discoveredOn September 23, 1846, the French mathematician Urbain Le Verrier gave its calculations on the location of an eighth planet in the solar system, to the German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle at the Berlin Observatory. With these calculations and the help of his assistant, Galle discovered the planet by making observations during the next 24 hours. The blue gas planet, 4 times the size of the earth, was named Neptune. |
