They wanted to protest against the British monopoly on the tea trade in America. English repression to this act established the foundation for the American resistance. |

1838 : Battle of Blood RiverThe Battle of Red River happened not far from the river Ncome in the KwaZulu Natal between Zulus and Voortrekkers. Between 10,000 and 20,000 Zulu warriors attacked 470 Voortrekkers. The battle lasted only a short time because of the superiority of weapons of the Voortrekkers. More than 3,000 Zulu warriors were killed and the river became red with their blood. |

1920 : Earthquake in ChinaOn December 16, 1920, an earthquake of magnitude 8.5 on the Richter scale hit the province of Gansu in China. More than 200,000 people were killed. |

1944 : Beginning of the Battle of the BulgeThe German army under the command of Field Marshal Rundstedt launched an offensive on the Ardennes on the 16 December 1944 in order to recapture Antwerp and disperse the British and American armies. Allied forces are taken by surprise and disorientation is compounded by the very bad weather. |
