1917 : Georges Clemenceau becomes prime minister On November 15, 1917, Georges Clemenceau was appointed Prime Minister, as the war seemed endless with immeasurable loss of life. President Raymond Poincare recalled Clemenceau , even if he did not get along at all with him, to fight against the defeatism inside the government and the voices that called for the end of the war. Clemenceau hold the country together and support the troops by refusing any surrender and then could see the German surrender in November 1918.
1943 : Himmler orders that Gypsies were also sent to concentration camps On November 15, 1943, Himmler, the chief of police of Nazi Germany, released his order to send the Gypsies in concentration camps. Most of the Gypsies were already in labor camps.
1978 : Plane crash in Sri Lanka On November 15, 1978, a plane carrying pilgrims returning from Mecca to Indonesia, crashed shortly before the landing strip of the Colombo airport where it was to make a stop. A 5-meter storm surge covered many cities and fields. The rice harvest was lost and the protected mangrove of Sundarbans was devastated. Nearly 5,000 people were killed. But thanks to shelters built to protect against disaster, the casualties were much smaller than in 1991 when 140,000 people were killed. Meanwhile, damages to property where even more important in 2007 than in 1991.
