1859 : Oregon On February 14, 1859, Oregon became the 33rd U.S. state. Its capital is Salem and its largest city is Portland.
1912 : Arizona On February 14, 1912, Arizona became the 48th U.S. State. Its capital is Phoenix. There are many natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, carved by the River Colorado, in that territory. More than a quarter of the country is reserved for various Indian Nations (Federal Trust Land).
1929 : St. Valentine's Day Massacre On February 14, 1929, 7 members of the gang rival of Al Capone, the North Side Irish led by Bugs Moran, were killed in a garage.
1951 : Sugar Ray Robinson On 14 February 1951, the boxer Sugar Ray Robinson defeated Jake LaMotta and became the new middleweight champion of the world. The rivalry between the two boxers inspired Martin Scorsese for his film Raging Bull.
