1888 : Terrible blizzard in the northwest U.S. On January 12, 1888, Arctic air coming from Canada arrived suddenly in Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. The relatively mild temperatures fall sharply to minus 40 ° C a strong blizzard with heavy snow brought blinding conditions. 235 people were killed, mostly children on their way home from school.
