1872 : Fire in Boston


On November 9, 1872, a fire broke out in a warehouse in Boston, Massachusetts. Hundreds of buildings were destroyed and 14 people were killed. After this disaster, the system of protection against fire in the city was completely restructured.

1938 : Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany


On November 9, 1938, began what was called Kristallnacht and which continued on November 10 : the Nazis launched a campaign of terror against Jews, burning houses, shops and synagogues. 100 people were killed, 30,000 others were deported and the Jews were sentenced to pay a one billion marks fine. The international community was shocked by these events but since no action was taken against Germany, the Nazi government naturally believed it was free to launch its final solution against the Jews of Europe.

1989 : East Germany officially opened the Berlin Wall


On 9 November 1989, the East German government officially opened the Berlin Wall, allowing East Germans to travel or just going to visit the west side. The next night, thousands of people destroyed this wall of shame, symbol of the Cold War, in front of cameras around the world and with the approval of Soviet leader Gorbachev.

1993 : The Old Bridge in Mostar was destroyed during the war Bosniak-Croat


On 9 November 1993, the Stari Most, the old bridge of Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, was destroyed by bombing during the Croat-Bosniak War. It was built in 1566. It was rebuilt and reopened in 2004.

2005 : Suicide attacks against hotels in Jordan


On November 9, 2005, three bomb attacks were perpetrated against hotels in Amman, Jordan. The hotels were particularly frequented with foreign diplomats and, at the Radisson Hotel, one of the terrorists even exploded himself in the middle of a wedding. 60 people were killed and 115 others were injured.
