1912 : Creation of the African National Congress (ANC)


On January 8, 1912, in South Africa, leaders of various communities, religious organizations and other dignitaries gathered in Bloemfontein and created the African National Congress (ANC). The ANC expressed its willingness to bring all Africans as one people to defend their rights and freedoms.

1963 : Exhibition of Mona Lisa in Washington


On January 8th, 1963, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci was exposed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. This was the first time that Mona Lisa traveled to the United States.
