1917 : US in World War I On 2 April 1917, during the First World War, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress to send troops into battle against Germany.
1979 : Outbreak of Anthrax in Russia In early April 1979, an Anthrax epidemic began in the city of Ekaterinburg in Russia. 62 people were killed. The pathogen had escaped from the biological weapons plant in the city.
1982 : Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands On 2 April 1982 Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands which led to a crisis between Argentina and the United Kingdom. The term war is not used but the British troops came to regain control of the islands.
