Vallauris Golfe Juan
At first you might not be very impressed by this little village, but do not be fooled by its slightly shabby appearance. Vallauris has more to offer than you might think! Vallauris is a small town, directly connected to the seaside resort Golfe Juan, situated between Juan les Pins and Cannes. Vallauris is the name both of the city itself and the municipality, to which Golfe Juan is included as well. The municipality of Vallauris has about 30 000 inhabitants.
Vallauris is famous for its fine ceramics, and the fact that the great artist Picasso used to live here between 1948 and 1955. If you take a stroll down the main street in Vallauris, you will see for yourself how much this city loves pottery, there is a pottery store in almost every street corner! There is even a fascinating little shop that only sells scented ceramic fountains, if you would happen to look for one of those. I really recommend you to take a look in at least one or two of the boutiques, you can find many beautiful things for a very good price, especially if you are looking for kitchen equipment.
Do not miss the Picasso museum, located in the chapel of the Castle in Vallauris. Here you can see Picasso's “Temple of Peace”, and a huge composition called “War and Peace”. This exposition consists of more than 100 m2 of wall decorated with paintings that illustrate the drawbacks of war and the blessing of peace.
Why not continue your excursion by sitting down at “Place Paul Isnard”, and have a delicious meal at the fantastic restaurant “Café Llorca”? This is the bistro of the famous chef Alain Llorca, former chef of Hotel Negresco in Nice. Try some of his delicious food creations while enjoying the view of the statue “L'homme de mouton” by Picasso, situated in the middle of the square.
After visiting the city of Vallauris, I propose a nice little walk down to Golfe Juan. Take a look at the big harbor, and enjoy the light breeze from the seaside. Golfe Juan has an agreeable beach if you would fancy a swim or maybe a moment in the sun to work on your tan. There are several restaurants and cafes along the board walk if you would feel like a little pause while sipping on a refreshing drink!
