Do their homework to our children

Homework can be an ongoing battle between parents and children.
Kids will find any excuse for delaying their homework : play outside, watch TV or surf the internet seem much more interesting to them. It is useless to fight with them to make them focus, it is better to try to make them understand that this is an everyday task like any other.
So we will begin to establish a daily routine for homework : identify a time for each day according to the schedule of everyone and stick to it.
We will also ask our children to write homework to do in a clear way and make sure they have everything they need at the time of their homework.
We need to find a quiet place for them to concentrate.
The best is their room, without TV and without younger children to disrupt. We must also avoid making noise in the adjoining rooms : it is best not to watch TV ourselves, tinkering or making noise in the kitchen.
Then we will give our children a guideline to help them to get away with their duties by talking with them about their preferences : start with this exercise, finish with this lesson ...
We must remain available for our children to help them but we must not do the homework for them. If we feel like doing homework, we can take classes ourselves.
When our children have long assignments or presentations, we can offer to split them in small parts with a specific timetable for each of them in order to avoid stress.
It is best to avoid giving them material incentives : if you do your homework, you'll get an ice cream or you can watch TV longer ...
This makes them think that homework is a frustrating chore.
It is better to praise them when they take great care or finish their homework quickly. And the rewards can lead to a special outing when they have worked well for a while.
