1533 : Anne Boleyn crowned queen


On June 1st 1533, Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII of England is crowned queen. For the love of Anne Boleyn and to be able to marry her, Henry VIII had broken down with the Catholic church who did not want to annul his first marriage. Three years later, since Anne Boleyn did not give him a male heir, Henry VIII seduced Jane Seymour and had his wife executed.

1792 : Kentucky


On June 1st 1792, Kentucky became the 15th U.S. State. Its capital is Frankfort, and Louisville is its largest city. The country is renowned for its caves, its coal, its deers, turkeys and elks.

1980 : CNN is launched


On June 1st, 1980, the Cable News Network (CNN) made its debut in its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
This was the first 24/24 news channel .
It was created by Ted Turner, who had bought a local channel on the declineto create a news channel. It did not have great success at this early stage but Turner continued investing and the chain became one of the most famous in the world.
The chain merged with Time Warner in 1996 and with America Online in 2000.

2001 : Massacre in the royal family of Nepal


On June 1st 2001, Crown Prince of Nepal Dipendra, arrived at a party with a MP5K and a M16 and killed his parents, the King and Queen of Nepal, and seven other members of his family before returning its weapons against him.
He died three days later. The king's brother - and the king's brother in law, being married to the queen's sister, Gyanendra, succeeded to the throne and remained king until 2008, when Nepal became a republic.

2009 : An Air France plane disappears into the Atlantic Ocean


On June 1st, 2009, Air France Flight 447, from Rio to Paris, crashed at sea, killing all 228 passengers and crew. The black boxes of the aircraft were found almost 2 years later, in May 2011. Pitot tubes of the Airbus 330 are suspected but the exact cause of the crash were not known at the first inspection of the boxes.
